CVITP: Free Tax Filing For Canadians

This year, Inclusive Solutions is volunteering with the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) and E4C to help low-income individuals file their taxes—completely free of charge.

What is CVITP?

The Community Volunteer Income Tax Program is a CRA initiative that connects trained volunteers with people who need help filing their taxes but can’t afford professional services. It’s designed for individuals with simple tax situations, such as seniors, newcomers, students, and those receiving disability or social assistance.

E4C’s Role

E4C is a local non-profit that works to reduce poverty and support vulnerable communities in Edmonton. One of the many ways they help is by running tax clinics so people can file their returns and receive the benefits they qualify for—without worrying about the cost.

UFile’s Contribution

While volunteers like us give our time, we wouldn’t be able to do this work without the right tools. That’s where UFile comes in. They provide their professional tax software free of charge to CVITP volunteers, making it possible to prepare and file returns quickly and accurately.

Without UFile’s support, tax clinics would have to rely on manual calculations or expensive software, which could make free tax filing much harder to offer. Their contribution helps ensure that more people can access government benefits without added barriers.

Why CVITP Matters

For a lot of people, filing a tax return isn’t just about following the rules—it’s how they access things like the Canada Child Benefit, GST/HST credits, and other income supports. If they don’t file, they don’t get the money they’re entitled to. The problem is, many can’t afford tax preparation services, and the process can be confusing. That’s where CVITP volunteers step in.

How We’re Helping

At Inclusive Solutions, we know tax season can feel overwhelming, and sometimes, people just need a little help to get it done. That’s why we’re volunteering with CVITP and E4C this year—to make sure more people in our community can file their taxes and get the benefits they deserve.

Need Help Filing?

If you or someone you know qualifies for free tax filing, check out E4C’s website or visit the CRA’s CVITP page to find a clinic near you. It’s free, it’s simple, and it could make a big difference.
